What is sleep
Sleep can be described as many things, most people think sleep is when the body shuts down to get rest. WRONG! True sleep is when the body is still and at peace resting, but the brain is working hard getting the body ready for the day ahead of them. There are four main stages of sleep, Trandsition mode, light sleep, deep sleep and REM sleep (rapid eye movement). Stage N1 (Trandsition to sleep) is when mustle activity slows down and the body starts to go to sleep. Stage N2 (light sleep) is when eye movement stops, heart rate slows and the bodys temprature decreases. Stage N3 (Deep sleep) is when the brain waves are very slow and the blood is directed away from the brain and towards muscles which restores the bodys energy. REM sleep or dream sleep usually hapens 70-90 minutes after falling asleep. Breathing is shallow, heart
rate and blood pressure increase and the arm and leg mucles are parlyzied.
